Building Feedback Confidence Across headspace
How Growth Collective partnered with headspace to strengthen feedback capability across 80% of its leaders, supervisors and HR Business Partners.
The Challenge
Feedback is one of the most important leadership skills, but it's also one of the conversations leaders can find most challenging.
When headspace identified feedback as an area its leaders wanted to strengthen, the focus was on building greater confidence, capability and consistency in how feedback happens across the organisation.
With leaders working across different roles and levels of responsibility, the development needed to be practical, relevant and applicable to everyday leadership situations.
Our Approach
Across July and August, Growth Collective partnered with headspace to deliver six virtual Feedback Masterclasses, reaching 80% of its leaders, supervisors and HR Business Partners.
Each session brought together leaders from different areas of the organisation, creating opportunities to explore feedback through the lens of their own experiences and challenges.
The masterclasses went beyond simply teaching people how to give feedback.
Participants explored the human side of feedback, including:
Why feedback can trigger emotional and threat responses.
How self-awareness, assumptions and intentions influence conversations.
The difference between what we intend to communicate and the impact it has.
Practical ways to structure feedback with clarity and confidence.
How to ask for, receive and respond to feedback constructively.
The sessions combined evidence-based frameworks, real workplace scenarios and opportunities to practise in a supportive environment.
While participants brought different levels of leadership experience, many of the questions were remarkably similar.
How do you give feedback when someone isn't in the right headspace to receive it? How do you approach constructive feedback without making the conversation feel entirely negative? And how do you make feedback part of everyday leadership rather than something reserved for difficult situations?
These conversations helped connect practical tools with the realities leaders were navigating.
The Impact
80% of headspace's leaders, supervisors and HR Business Partners reached through six Feedback Masterclasses.
Participant feedback highlighted the value of having practical tools they could immediately apply, alongside a greater understanding of their own responses to feedback and the importance of setting a clear intention before a conversation.
As one participant shared:
"Setting an intention when giving feedback, being timely with feedback and the difference between being kind and nice."
Another reflected on the practical application of the Situation, Behaviour, Impact (SBI) framework:
"SBI - I will live and breathe this! Thank you!!!"
The responses reinforced the value of combining practical frameworks with opportunities for reflection and real-world application.
Leadership Development That Meets People Where They Are
This partnership demonstrates what's possible when leadership development begins with listening to what an organisation and its people actually need.
By delivering tailored sessions across different leadership groups, Growth Collective supported headspace in building a more consistent approach to feedback while recognising the different contexts in which its leaders operate.
